Don't Bother Me!!

This week we are talking about a lot of things.  But, most importantly, being bothered or in my case unbothered.  Whether it's at work or abroad, I want to live my life in such a way I don't have to worry about the petty things that we each encounter each day.  We are also talking about, in our Glitter and the  Geek segment,... THE DEFENDERS!!  I have discovered some new music that I am choosing as my anthems currently from SZA and Cardi B.. Listen In!!

Where and What

Yep, that's me almost 3 weeks ago.  If you were wondering where I had been I was trapped in  hospital bed plotting a way to escape.  LOL! Honestly, I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic when I was rushed to the ER with blood sugars over 1000.  I know right! Yes, 1067 to be exact.  The many doctors and nurses that worked together to save my life were shocked and bemused at that number.  While I slipped in and out of consciousness the tone of every one's conversation was that they had never witnessed anyone having blood sugars this high.  I was scared.  I think sometimes Doctors give you the worst case scenario.  So, when it doesn't happen they become your hero.  But, I didn't care I was in trouble and I needed all of them to get me out of it.  My recent podcast reflects my feelings on being diagnosed with the "silent" killer.  Also, I pay homage to my mother who is also fighting a more serious health battle.  Enjoy!

She Said What?

On an shade filled episode of Watch What Happens Live, Sunday Night, Vivica A Fox dropped a hip hop bombshell that exploded in her face. The Kill Bill actress insinuated that rapper 50 Cents had "some things that aren't clear" concerning his sexuality.  Twitter exploded and other bombshells and digs were exchanged between her, Fifty and Soldier Boy.  Check out the latest podcast to find out all the drama.  Also, Starbuck's "Red Cup-Gate" continues.  Empire's Gaby is too booked to be fat shamed.  And, I took my mom on a date.

Dragon Con Tales

I was very excited to be going back to Atlanta to attend their Annual nerd gathering, Dragon Con. I had never attended this event even though I had previously lived in Atlanta for many years.  But, that is probably the only thing nice I have to say about the event.  Check out this week's podcast for my review of Dragon Con.

Spread'em

I had no idea that this was a thing until I read a few articles that were talking about it.  I guess if you do not want anyone sitting next to you on a bus or train and you spread your legs out to accomplish that goal YOU WILL BE ARRESTED.  Who knew? Also, in this episode of The 5by5 Podcast, I talk about my car being vandalized and shenanigans at the car dealership.

Let's Wait Awhile

"Waiting awhile" is exactly what we have been doing while Ms. Jackson has been wifey to Billionaire, Wissam Al Mana.  But, the wait is over after a announcement was made from the "Control" singer's mouth earlier this month.  Janet says she will tour with the upcoming new music she has been working on.  And I cannot be happier.  I have loved Janet ever since she played adorable battered child, Penny, on Good Times. Listen to the announcement in this episode of The 5by5 Podcast as we chat about Ms. J and the now infamous "Dad Bod"

Beards and Balls

I read the funniest article the other day and I just had to share with you all.  Did you know that there was a study done on men's beards?  The study showed that the same bacteria that you find in feces was present in a good percentage of the beards they tested.  Being a bearded guy myself, I raced to the bathroom and scrubbed my face raw.  Keep in mind I didn't shave it off.  I have grown to love my beard.  It's a security blanket so to speak.  But, just the mere thought of having fecal bacteria on my face almost made me do the unthinkable. I talk about the study and a new "kids" book called "Do You Want To Play With My Balls?" On the latest installment of The 5by5 Podcast.

Nerd Weekend Activate

Each year nerds and geeks alike get to come out in mass, across the country, to celebrate what we have come to know as Free Comic Book Day.  And in recent years, we have coupled this with a major superhero movie by Marvel that debuts on the same weekend.   This weekend we were once again given what we have been waiting for all year.  Marvel debuted their highly anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron on Friday and Free Comic Book Day sealed the nerd weekend deal on Saturday.   I love this time of year because like the mythology on Halloween, we comic book geeks get to come out and live our comic book fantasies in public.  Many times during the year we have to wait for a convention to come to town to be around like minded individuals.  But, at this time of the year (The first Saturday in May) we are regarded and rewarded with an awesome movie and free comics.

First up, Marvel's Age of Ultron more than delivered on its Avenger's sequel.  It was action packed from the first scene until the very end.  Although, I personally didn't think it was as good as the first movie.  But, it was still very entertaining and it solidifies Joss Whedon as the unofficial Nerd King.

On Saturday, we were once again treated to free comics at local shops every where.  The Cosplayers were out in full force and the BBQ was on the grill.  Free Comic Book Day is such a fun event.  Remember, when we interviewed the founder of FCBD, Joe Field last year?
Check out that interview right here. This year my niece and I went for her first time.  She had such a good time and we made a day of it.  Going back and forth between our 2 local shops, we picked up free comics (of course) and artwork.  I chatted up my geeky friends and made a few new ones.  All in all, it was a fun n geeky weekend.  I can't wait until next year. Check out the podcast above for a full Age of Ultron and FCBD review!

Geek Spring 2015 Begins

Happy Geek Spring!!!

There are so many geeky things going on this spring I can hardly contain myself. And my geek spring began this passed weekend at our locally ran/owned Pop Con Comic Book and Pop Culture Convention.  Although, I was hot as hell, inside the venue,  it was a lot of fun.  I, also, met the lovely and charming Naomi Grossman who played "Pepper" on American Horror Story's Asylum and Freakshow.  She did share with me who was the biggest diva on set.  You will have to listen to this week's podcast to find out who it is.  Not that you really have to guess.  But, I got some really amazing blank comic book variants and sketches and managed to get a Silent Bob Funko Pop Figure
Also, a little Daredevil the series talk. Free Comic Book Day and more...

It's Not Right...

It has been a difficult week.  I have had to make decisions that affect the podcast.  And I have made the decision to make this journey alone.  I had to address some things that were said against my character.  I may not have much but I do have integrity.  And I will not have anyone challenge it.  So, part of tonight's podcast is dedicated to explaining how I was misunderstood.  But, also, with much sadness.Since I think certain statements cannot be taken back. I have to move away from the current format of The 5by5 Podcast. So listen for a new schedule and content.  I am needing a new name for my Tuesday night show too.  I also chatted about the Marvel Cinematic Universe announcement and why Honey Boo Boo was fired from TLC.

Bring On The Wizard

I am coming up on my next big  Nerd Escape this weekend with Wizard World Comic Con in Nashville, TN.  This will be my first Wizard World Con and I am excited to see what they have in store.  WW has cons all over the country to the delight of  fanboys and girls everywhere.
I plan on taking in the city of Nashville while I am in town for the 3 days of the convention.
The only problem is the amount of recent cancellations that have come from Nashville.

Also, our Nerd Moon is finally in phase and the new geek shows start on Monday with ABC'S Gotham.  On the latest edition of Fanboy Weekly I talk about this year's contenders for best fanboy show.  I also talk about the ones I don't think will make the cut

Batman and True Blood Catch Up Post

I have been talking about the Batman 75th Anniversary on my podcast for some time now.  DC Comics is going all out for The Dark Knight for his birthday.  The festivities will commence on July 23rd at your local comic book stores and Barnes & Noble during their Get Pop-Cultured in store event.  There will be a free comic book giveaway of Detective Comics #27 re-telling of the origin of Batman.  Also, preceding Batman 75 DC has released 13 on going series with variant covers by various artist.  Superman Wonder Woman 10 and Justice League 33 (not in stores yet) show below.

Check out the podcast to find out all the information on Batman 75.

True Blood returned 4 weeks ago and I am still on the fence.  Now, I will finish the series since I am 6 years invested in it.  But, with the surprising deaths of Tara and Alcide before we even get to the middle of the season has left a sad taste in my mouth.  I mean there deaths were treated so insignificantly It makes you think they were B-list characters.  I for one think that Hep V Vampire storyline was used too much already and I wish it was already over.  But, you can check out the podcast below and hear my full review on True Blood so far!

Doing The Dew

I thought I had kicked my soft drink addiction.  I was doing so good.  I had been drinking a ton of water.  I fell in love with the Sparkling Ice flavored water.  It was going to be my "chantix" for soda addiction.  But, those tricky people at Mtn Dew had other plans for my pancreas.  They released a bottled version of the Taco Bell exclusive Baja Blast. I sort of knew that it was happening, but since I was content on drinking my water I didn't give it much thought.  And since I knew that I wasn't really eating at the taco chain anymore and my craving for my most favorite Mtn Dew (to date) was only sold in the restaurant.  I thought I was okay.  Until I seen it at a local convenience store and all my willpower sort of just went away.  And now I am back on The Mountain Dew Juice.... Curses!! Also, on this episode of The 5by5 podcast I share my views on giving your kids realistic names. Unlike the silly woman (who lives locally) who named her child after Walmart of all places.  #sideeye
Check out the podcast below to hear all these stories and more!!
