This week we are talking about a lot of things. But, most importantly, being bothered or in my case unbothered. Whether it's at work or abroad, I want to live my life in such a way I don't have to worry about the petty things that we each encounter each day. We are also talking about, in our Glitter and the Geek segment,... THE DEFENDERS!! I have discovered some new music that I am choosing as my anthems currently from SZA and Cardi B.. Listen In!!

Dearly Beloved
The news that Prince Rogers Nelson had passed away, earlier this week, took the Internet and media outlets by storm. It was an unbelievable piece of news that no one wanted to believe. When I first heard of it I immediately thought it was a social media hoax. But, once CNN flashed "Prince Dead at 57" I knew it was true. Prince, was a musical and creative genius. Credited with defining the Minneapolis sound, Prince was also a prolific songwriter. He has worked with a multitude of artist including Sheila E., The Time, Sheena Easton, Chaka Khan and The Bangels to name a few. He has reinvented himself over the years, not for media attention. But, as a testament to his personal growth and self awareness. He will most be remembered by the younger generation as the artist formerly known as Prince when he took on a symbol to express himself. But, my generation and before will remember his music and his provocative autobiographical ground breaking movie Purple Rain. He was a true artist that will be missed. But, like Michael, Whitney, John and Luther who went before him, the music will never die.

She Slays!
Yas!! She came to slay bitches. She knows that she's "that bitch that cause all that conversation". And the conversation is fierce. Beyonce is back with a new single and a new movement. Whether you like her or nah, she is the Queen of her Beyhive. Dropped one day before the Super Bowl, Beyonce's "Formation" song and video has captivated many - confused some and offended the haters. The same haters she comes for with lyrics like: "You Haters Corny With That Illuminati Mess" "I Like My Baby's Hair, Baby Hair and Afro" and she even likes her Negro's (Jay -Z) Jackson Five's like nose. It's and upbeat dance-able tune that gets you moving and revealing much more about Beyonce than we have ever seen before. The video has come under attack for the imagery she uses (shot in New Orleans) to give her opinion on the state of Black America in 2016. Even former NYC Mayor Guliani went on Fox to blast Beyonce on having that opinion. #BoyBye It's her "Run The World (Girls) for 2016 and I love it. Let's Wait Awhile
"Waiting awhile" is exactly what we have been doing while Ms. Jackson has been wifey to Billionaire, Wissam Al Mana. But, the wait is over after a announcement was made from the "Control" singer's mouth earlier this month. Janet says she will tour with the upcoming new music she has been working on. And I cannot be happier. I have loved Janet ever since she played adorable battered child, Penny, on Good Times. Listen to the announcement in this episode of The 5by5 Podcast as we chat about Ms. J and the now infamous "Dad Bod"

At The Point Of No Return
RIP Robin Williams
We are back after a short break from podcasting on The 5by5. Tonight's episode we talk about the untimely death of Robin Williams. We are saddened that such a great talent is not loss to us. Depression is real and you never know what is going on in someones life. I also wrapped up my participation in Barnes and Noble's Get Pop Culture event by winning a prize from their ZombieFest weekend. And we talk about the music from the motion picture block buster Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Shady Business
If you ever have listened to a Real Talk w/ David & Nikki podcast you know we deliver a fair amount of SHADE at times. Now, with the addition of my friend Ken Boggle it's even shadier. Or maybe it's just me. Maybe they bring out the shadiness in me. LOL But, on this week's podcast I asked the guys to bring their own topics. I don't know if that was a mistake or not. But, it was a hilarious good time. I chose for my topic Social Media Shade (go figure). Nikki, our resident purple muse, asked us "How Do We Experience Music?" and Ken kept it all the way real on his topic of "Immigration". The result from all three was pretty funny. So, check out the latest collaborative effort from the gang and you might be saying to yourself

Gay Speech, A Not To Do List?
I ran across an article on The Huffington Post by Mark Brennan Rosenberg. The article was about the 8 Things Gay Men Need To Stop saying. (read article here)
I found the article kind of funny, a bit interesting and sort of redundant at times. So, I took to the air waves to share my thoughts on what Mr. Rosenberg wrote. And here is what I came up with:

Mad Man-Hood and Accidental Racism(t)

A Daily Beast insider shared that even the promotional pictures and posters needed to be air-brushed so not to offend anyone. (see their story here) But, you know the paparazzi always gets their man or manhood in this case. And while on a shopping trip with his girlfriend they captured Jon's, not so elusive, trouser snake.

My advice to John is to wear underwear or wear a jock. Yeah, it sucks to be all objectified by the public. But, like he agreed I guess it's better to be called out for this rather than the opposite. You got the right!
Did you know Jon was on Sesame Street? If you close your eyes and listen to the video, this whole large penis thing makes this video hilarious.

Switching gears from accidental exposure to the latest song by Brad Paisley ft. LL Cool J, Accidental Racist. Ain't that a title! Everyone in the blogosphere has been blogging, tweeting and posting about this song. The whole country rap duo thing didn't appeal to me at first, but after all the hoopla I had to hear it. I must say it's different. And at times a little comical. I know this is a conversation that has to be had between the black and white races. But, I don't think this was the way it should have been delivered. All I can say is, it was an effort. Notice I didn't say a good one. I mean lyrics like "Dear Mr. White Man, I wish you understood. What the world is really like when you're livin' in the hood. Just because my pants are saggin' doesn't mean I'm up to no good", Isn't some of LL's best work.
I am okay with people having their own perspective. But, some of the words in the song don't even apply to my world. Have I been a victim of racism? Yes. Have I had my own preconceived notions about someone who wore a rebel t-shirt? Yes, I have. To me this song exploits some of the stereotypes in today's world pertaining to black people. Sagging Jeans.. Gold Chains.. etc.. Because in my world, I do not wear sagging jeans nor do I have fat gold chains around my neck. I doubt we will be hearing this in any of the hip hop clubs or boot scoot and bogeying to it at the next square dance. If it was attention that these two artist wanted, although they didn't need it, they definitely found what they were looking for. Too bad it's left a sour taste in most mouths and ears.
You can here the entire song below. Mess!!!
We will be talking about this blog and going over it on Monday April 22, 2013 @1:30pm on our Blog Talk Radio Show. Call into the show and tell me what you think. 914-803-4988

Bow Down to Mrs. Carter
Queen Bey wants you to
Bow Down
There is so much hype over this song. A song that I don't even think is a true single. Actually,I think it's funny. Why can't Beyonce use the bravado that her male counter parts use in their music. I actually think it is giving her just what she wants... EXPOSURE. And contrary to what everyone thinks. It's working. I guess I am a little biased because I love Beyonce and her music. Her last album "4" wasn't as commercially successful as the "Dangerously in Love", "B Day" or "I Am Sasha Fierce". But, in my biased opinion it was brilliant. I love it when Beyonce shows her boastful side. It's not like she hasn't done it before. How can anyone forget "Diva". Pretty much the same message wrapped in a funky r&b groove sans the word bitch.
It kills me how some females (Keyshia Cole) is taking this so literal. The word bitch used in today's world no longer refers to women, specifically. It refers to people who are lacking and whine about it. Do you remember one of the most popular phrases from The Dave Chappelle Show. "I'm Rich Bitch!!", exclaimed the truck driver who just came into a lot of money. Everyone thought that was funny, including females. Was he speaking to ladies all over the globe by calling them bitches? Absolutely not. It just shows how we can be so petty and judgmental of others when their words or thinking do not line up with how we think they should act or talk. Give it a rest. Beyonce is fine. I can't wait until this album hits the airwaves. But, only time will tell if we can get passed our hypocrisies and give her a chance.

Chris Brown Exposed!
I try really hard not to put up any explicit content here so everyone can enjoy my blog. But, with a little photo shopping, I was able to include the latest Chris Brown photo. Recently, Mr. Brown tweeted a picture of his new hair color. I think it looks good on him, reminds me of Sisco when he was still relevant. But, the latest pic doesn't show case his head, but his other.. errr 'head' for lack of a better word. I will say that now we know why Rhianna may have taken a few slaps upside the head before she had enough. Sometimes being well endowed isn't enough. Click the picture to go to the site that SHOWS Chris in his uncensored Birthday Suit. Warning if you are not above age 18 do not go to this site.
