What a night, What a night, What a night.... Yesterday's premiere of The A List New York was nothing less than AWESOME!! The boys were back with delicious drama on the very 1st episode of the second season. We find out that Reichen and Rodiney have obviously broken up... They imply that it was because of Reichen's Cam4 rendezvous and subsequent viral penis pictures. But, that wasn't the most explosive drama of this episode. New Comer Nyasha makes her debut, a singer/ business owner, that definitely knows how to play both sides. I am not sure why she was cast on this show. She doesn't really add anything but a lot of misplaced drama and diva-tude. Oh and she also owns a wig company and her hair looks an absolute mess. Anyway, Ryan is as fabulous as ever and TJ is obviously over and under whelmed by the state of their friendship. Derek has lost some of his edge and obviously has gained a little weight which actually makes him look more attractive. Let's hope his tanning product line works out for him. Mike Ruiz will actually have a story line this year since he is dating now. Last, but not least my least favorite character, Austin, still shows us why he is probably the unofficial star of the show. DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA... He is still trying to play the "Reichen and I are friends" card, but Ryan quickly shuts it down. This episode ends with a fight once again between Austin and Rodiney with Nyasha in the middle of it all. The previews of rest of the season look very exciting and I will be watching intently. We will see who prevails, but it looks like a long and bumpy road for our Male housewives.
I just finished watching The Movie "Catfish". It was enjoyable, but I found it pretty redundant and predictable at times. This story isn't new. I think if you go on any online dating site (good and bad) and you will find that some people aren't really who they claim to be. The only thing different with this movie, I suppose, is that the guy being bamboozled wanted answers. It helped that his brother and friend made documentaries. With their help and a little research he got the answers he needed. My own personal thought about online dating is believe 10% of what you read, 5% of what you see and the other 85% is up to chance.
The reason I feel this way is because I have been on the receiving end of a 'catfish' scenario too. I remember corresponding with a person online for several weeks. He was successful, smart and attractive (although the picture looked like it was taken from a mile away). I thought how nice it would be to meet the right guy. Although he dodged several of my attempts for a lunch or dinner date. A time was agreed upon for us to have drinks at a local watering hole. When arriving at the designated time and place, I surveyed the area as if I were trying to find Waldo. But, to no avail. Beginning to think I was stood up, a voice from behind me says, "David? I am glad you made it". My heart began to race just a bit. I was 180 degrees from seeing the man that I had been so captivated by in the prior weeks. As I began my pirouette it felt as if I were in slow motion (movie style of course). But with a 'record skipping sound' like you hear on television everything came to a resounding halt. My mind struggled to remember the person's name I was there to meet. But, because I did not recognize the person who stood in front of me, my mind was drawing a blank. Some how I was able to mutter a raspy hello and took a seat. I finally grasped reality and quizzically said, "Steven"? He confirmed his identity and asked why I acted like I didn't know him. By that time all of my mental faculties had come back to me. I explained to him that the picture and description in no way represented the man I am seeing today. He cleverly said that he had mentioned that he had gained some weight and his picture was about 10 years old. I explained that he did not. But, more than your misrepresentation of your physical features. What else would you lie about? I told him that looks were not all that important but being honest was on the top of my list. I collected myself and moved to leave. He then asked the question that I was hoping he would not. "What is it about me that you do not like, I know I am not ugly?" My only response was... No, you don't know that...
So, was I wrong? Looking back I may have acted harshly. But, I was young and really didn't know how to handle such things. I just knew how to find the door and get through it as quickly as I found it. I know I will get a lot of flack for being shallow. But, it really wasn't about looks it was about, TRUTH. I think the participants in the movie handled it better. And, theirs was a little more complicated than my scenario, but not that different. The one thing I took from the movie that I couldn't agree with more is the quote (which led to the title of the movie) "There are some people out there that are the catfish, they keep you on your toes"
Tell me about your catfish scenarios in the comments below.. I will post them in a future blog.
Behind many gay men, you'll sometimes find a straight woman or vice versa. In my life I have had several serious relationships with straight females. They have been my best friends, my confidants even at times my scapegoats. But, I have loved and I now miss them all. Life has a funny way of driving wedges in relationships no matter who's involved. Why am I sharing this with you, you ask? During the Atlanta Snow Storm of 2011, I had the opportunity to catch up on some Tivo. A show that I recorded, but had not watched, seemed to fit a snowed in day of television. Girls who like boys who like boys was the title of my 8 hour TV marathon. Shown on the Sundance channel, GWLBWLB, chronicles the life of 4 "couples" in New York City. It just so happens that the couple consists of 1 Gay Man and 1 Straight Woman. I found it interesting how I could relate to every couples problems and connections to each other. Some of the interactions seemed like a few pages out of my life. The show can be a little corny at times, but very heart felt at others. I sat through all 8 episodes wanting my own "Girlfriend". Maybe that's what I am missing right now in my life. A female friend to share private thoughts and secrets with that sometimes cannot be shared with another man. I'll let you guys know when I find her... again..
I started writing this blog several weeks ago, but the holidays came/coming. So, I got caught up in a time crunch like most people this time of year. But, here is my A list blog that should have come out after the reunion show.
The A List is a reality show based on the life of 6 gay men living on the pulse of the New York "in crowd". This show, albeit gay men, is done in the fashion of The Real Housewives franchise. We stumble upon these men in every day "unscripted" (wink) life. I will have to say I have a serious crush on the Brazilian hunk, Rodiney Santiago. Rodiney is one of the A Listers who is involved in a relationship with "real" reality star Amazing Race winner, Reichen Lemkuhl. Reichen is no stranger to reality tv or having his reality shown on tv. He has had a public celebrity break up with N Sync'r Lass Bass. I should pick up his (Lance) book to see what he has to say about Mr. Lemkuhl. I think it's interesting that Lance hasn't had anything to say about Reichen on his relationship with Rodiney. If anyone has some dirt CALL ME! Oh well, back to the matter at hand. Rodiney and Reichen seem to have this I love you so much, but I may really resent you relationship thing going on . I just wanted to shake the hell out of Rodiney and say JUST LEAVE. Every time I watched an episode where Reichen was pretty much bitch slapping Rodiney's ego, I would cringe. Then rewind it and watch it again to make sure I didn't hear or see what just happened. LOL That brings me to Austin. The young twenty something queen who Reichen feels he needs in his life. YOU ARE IN YOUR 40's Reichen. You do not need a twenty year old telling you how to live your life. I could care less that he was riding Marc Jacob. That doesn't give him a PhD in relationship advice. This kid needs to be removed.. ummm KICKED out of your life. If you have seen the series you know there were drinks flung and fist slung. I'll will say this to Rodiney. If my man allowed someone to attack me in public and still wanted to remain friends with them. I would have to go. But, all of this is just the tip of the iceberg.. err most of the iceberg. There are 3 other A Listers that add to all of this delicious drama. Ryan, the married botox laden hair dresser, Mike Ruiz, celebrity photographer and Derek, the spray tan queen. But, it works with the ensemble that LOGO has gathered I almost forgot cute and campy TJ, Ryan's bestfriend and employee. Girl, I hope you get paid next season. If you have not seen the show you can catch all the episodes on Logo's website. All of these boys have twitter accounts that make for a pretty interesting read. Check them out!
My latest reality TV crush is Billy The Exterminator. If you have ever watched this show, you may know what I am talking about. If you have not here is a quick synopsis of what it's about. The show is based around a extermination company in Louisiana. The "star" is one of the owner's of the company. He and his brother go out on various calls dispatched from their very flamboyant mother. They wrestle alligators, raccoons, snakes, roaches and all other types of vermin. But, Billy is the stand out. With his spiked mullet hair cut, he has a southern charm and personality that is very sexy. Can we say snake charmer? He has that sort of fun loving personality that any one would love to be around. While watching I find myself getting fearful that he may get hurt. But, he normally is able to save the day.
Well I guess they came back a few weeks ago. But, since I have been neglecting my poor blog I have decided to write about it today. THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA!! Our girls Nene, Kandi, Kim and Sheree return along with Phaedra (the attorney) and Cynthia Banks (the model). You will notice this season that Lisa Wu Hartwell is not present, although she was in this week's episode. At the beginning of this season you hear Sheree, say that she had not seen Lisa since she moved just north of Atlanta. LIES! That must have been Bravo's way of not liking how Wu-Hartwell left the show. In an interview done earlier this year, Lisa explained the reason she was not returning to the show. She said It was because she did not want her life to be scripted. Shame on you Bravo for duping us in to thinking that all that melodrama wasn't set up. LOL! I for one think Lisa is the realest for not selling out to Bravo for a pay check, You Go Girl. On the other hand, this season is already drama filled with 2 cat fights already under their collective Gucci belts. The new additions of Ms. Parks and Miss Banks are ok until you see their interactions with the core group. Ms. Parks is supposedly an attorney to the stars here in Atlanta. She claims to be a true to life Southern Belle. But, her actions and over the top musings do not seem really lady like. She comes off phony and full of herself. Unlike, Nene's over the top realness. Miss Banks, on the other hand, is as sweet as she is pretty. She almost seems out of place with this group of divas and we will have to wait and see if she can hold her own with them. All in all this season should be a good watch.
He is smart, cute, funny. He has also made a splash on the gay porn scene. You all might remember him from Big Brother Season 10. I admit that I might have seen one or two episodes of Big Brother. After seeing this guy I wish I had seen more. Recently, I have been following him ontwitter. It seems like he has made a trek from Texas to California. I know some of you who do not tweet probably do not care. But, it is refreshing to live vicariously through some one's tweets to make your own life seem less boring. Or does it do the opposite. Nevertheless, you will find his musings pretty Amusing from the things he eats to what he is wearing as a bath towel. Follow the jump and see what Mister Daigle is up to, you will not be disappointed or maybe you will.. Let me know!
