Each year nerds and geeks alike get to come out in mass, across the country, to celebrate what we have come to know as Free Comic Book Day. And in recent years, we have coupled this with a major superhero movie by Marvel that debuts on the same weekend. This weekend we were once again given what we have been waiting for all year. Marvel debuted their highly anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron on Friday and Free Comic Book Day sealed the nerd weekend deal on Saturday. I love this time of year because like the mythology on Halloween, we comic book geeks get to come out and live our comic book fantasies in public. Many times during the year we have to wait for a convention to come to town to be around like minded individuals. But, at this time of the year (The first Saturday in May) we are regarded and rewarded with an awesome movie and free comics.
First up, Marvel's Age of Ultron more than delivered on its Avenger's sequel. It was action packed from the first scene until the very end. Although, I personally didn't think it was as good as the first movie. But, it was still very entertaining and it solidifies Joss Whedon as the unofficial Nerd King.
On Saturday, we were once again treated to free comics at local shops every where. The Cosplayers were out in full force and the BBQ was on the grill. Free Comic Book Day is such a fun event. Remember, when we interviewed the founder of FCBD, Joe Field last year?
Check out that interview right here. This year my niece and I went for her first time. She had such a good time and we made a day of it. Going back and forth between our 2 local shops, we picked up free comics (of course) and artwork. I chatted up my geeky friends and made a few new ones. All in all, it was a fun n geeky weekend. I can't wait until next year. Check out the podcast above for a full Age of Ultron and FCBD review!
This week on the The 5by5 Podcast we are talking about dick once again. I shared with my listeners an article from Cosmo.Ph. Titled, "11 Things Guys Secretly Do With Their Penises", it was hilarious. I, also, took a work call to prove to everyone that I am not crazy when I say how horrible it is sometime dealing with employees. I also take a penis knowledge quiz and shares some responses to last week's Question Of The Week.
This week in our Fanboy Weekly segment we share a list of past collecting mammoths that are worth nothing now. Listen in, to the list, to see if you ever collected any of these things.
The Power Of Three Will Set Us Free was the feeling that the cast of Charmed (Brian Krause, Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty) gave the panel room at this year's Wizard World Nashville Comic Con.
In this video we find out what Prue has to say about her abrupt departure from the show.
They were all delightful and full of energy and made the fans very happy.
I am coming up on my next big Nerd Escape this weekend with Wizard World Comic Con in Nashville, TN. This will be my first Wizard World Con and I am excited to see what they have in store. WW has cons all over the country to the delight of fanboys and girls everywhere.
I plan on taking in the city of Nashville while I am in town for the 3 days of the convention.
The only problem is the amount of recent cancellations that have come from Nashville.
Also, our Nerd Moon is finally in phase and the new geek shows start on Monday with ABC'S Gotham. On the latest edition of Fanboy Weekly I talk about this year's contenders for best fanboy show. I also talk about the ones I don't think will make the cut
It's Fanboy Weekly again (a little late) and we are giving away 2 Kick A$$ movie key chains. I know it isn't much, but they are cool nonetheless. I will choose, at random, 2 people to receive either the Kick Ass or Hit Girl Key Chain. I only have 2 so if you want to be eligible to win just listen to the below podcast to find out how. Also, in this week's podcast I talk about how I am going overboard on collecting. My weekly comic load, Marvel and Netflix team up to bring us original exclusive super hero entertainment and NBC is revamping it's long lost Heroes franchise.
As you probably already know I have been searching for a copy of Lois Lane 106 but my search is coming to an end, hopefully. Also, I am can be a little late on the fanboy news but I just realized that Dave Bautista is the same Batista that will be in Guardians of the Galaxy movie this summer as Drax the Destroyer.
Also, Monday saw the release of the long awaited WWE Network. Fans of World Wrestling Entertainment found some difficulty logging on and in. It took me about 30 mins to complete the process. But, I have found it to be interesting. I am a luke warm fan and enjoy some of the entertainers. What I have watched already is Legends of WWE and it was the Bret Hart/ Sean Michaels story. Which was very interesting. Check out what else I found out about the new WWE Network below.
I am so pulling out my old Guardians Of The Galaxy comic books. This is the first official trailer for this summer's most anticipated movie from Marvel.

In honor of Black History Month and the revival of Fan Boy Weekly, I thought I would pay homage to my favorite black superheroes. I have been a comic book fan practically all of my life. But, the one thing that I missed as a kid that I am finally getting to see as an adult is superheroes that look like me. I am happy that Marvel is utilizing more and more black characters in their live action comic book movies. Nick Fury, Storm and War Machine are the three we know from the movies. But, this spring here comes Falcon and Bishop as new black superhero players in the game. And I couldn't be more pleased. I bet you do not know who was the first black superhero in the comics? Now, if Tyler Perry could get the rights to make a Black Panther Film I would probably find away to be part of it.
I also share my views on Justice League War. And I get everyone up to speed on Arrow, Agents of Shield and The Coven Finale. Whew, a lot on today's Fan Boy Weekly Podcast.
Welcome back! We haven't had a Fanboy Friday (now weekly) post in awhile. But, this show is a good and informative one. Listen in as we chat about the new Marvel Infinity comic book that just came out. If you remember during Free Comic Book Day the Infinity prequel book was one of the giveaways. But, now it's here in all it's glory. The cover is awesome and the artwork is great. You will also find an offer for a digital copy and a bonus copy. I'll tell you how during the show!
Also, I give a small review about the animated movie Superman Unbound. It's a pretty good story and I felt like it was sequel to Batman/Superman Apocalypse. I thought so it featured Supergirl and the elements from the first movie kind of led into this one. But, that is just my opinion. I also loved the fact the Matt Bomer was voice lead for Superman/Clark. I recently found out that he was married to his boyfriend. If you remember Matt, he stars in the show White Collar and was one of the strippers in Magic Mike.
Finally, the main focus of this blog and he show. The Amazon Princess, daughter of Paradise Island:
WONDER WOMAN!!
We chat about why we cannot get a good live action feature for our favorite heroine. I think they should use the very well written animated movie for material. We have WW in so many animated movies and television cartoons, it's hard for me to believe that she can't get her own show. I also asked the question: Who was the first actress to play Wonder Woman on TV? The answer Cathy Lee Crosby. Yes, she did! It was horrible and probably the worst version of our gal in red, white and blue. She had no powers, blonde hair and no lasso. It was the predecessor to the late 70's television series starring Linda Carter.
We all remember the failed NBC pilot for Wondy, where Adriana Palicki was suited up in the satin tights. Fanboys and girls were not having the new look. After the pilot, NBC shut it down and once again WW was a dream. Recently, TheCW played with the idea of a prequel called Amazon. It was also shelved. So what is it going to take? I think if we can wait long enough. She should be introduced in the Superman/ Batman movie. And if the reception is good branch out on her own.
This week's Throwback goes to Mr. Speed himself: Flash.
The Flash Television series was before it's time. Check out John Wesley Ship's Flash and listen to the show for some information about our speedster.
This week on Fanboy Friday we talk about the Season Premiere of True Blood. I was not that enthused. But, don't get me wrong I enjoyed it. The one person I am over in this series is Jason Stackhouse. It looks like they have changed Tara. We didn't see much from Sam Merlotte or Lafayette, but I am sure both of their stories will grow. I hope they don't ruin the Bill Compton character with this whole Billith thing. It could get a little old. I wonder if this will be the last year for this show. I know it's going strong, but how long can it really go. I need to read the books.
Also, Teen Wolf is back and not only does Scott and Derek have to fight off Boyd the moon starved wolf. There is a new player in town killing virgins. And is Stiles the next victim. Allison is hunting on here own. And Lydia is going crazy again. Peter is the usual asshole.
AppleTv finally adds HBO Go and Watch ESPN to their line up. And I give you this
weeks top Superhero IOS Apps.
Thanks To FrogPants Studio for my Free Comic Book Day free piece of signed art. Below
This week's Fanboy Throw Back comes from Wonder Woman 172. It features the death of Hippolyta!
I know I am late but I finally saw Iron Man 3. I was so disappointed. Not saying that it wasn't a good movie. It just wasn't a good fanboy movie. (in my opinion) I think what they did to The Mandarin was dumb. I mean how can you take away the power rings and the history. He ended up being a front for a fake terrorist. I did like seeing all the different Iron Man Armors.. But, it left me wanting more. I also like the fact that he was talking to Dr. Bruce Banner at the end. I guess he will move into Stark Towers and that will be the base of operations for the 2nd Avengers Movie.
I have to say that I liked what I saw in the Thor: The Dark World trailer. It looks amazing.
The Wolverine trailer released today left little to the imagination. I saw Viper, Silver Samurai and The Hand. It looks like it will be another hit for the fanboys and girl's favorite X-Man.
Teen Wolf is really turning it up this season. Supernatural powered Alpha Werewolves, secret societies, and Stiles almost gets laid. I like seeing Bianca Lawson on the show. If you remember she was Kendra The Vampire Slayer on Buffy. We get a few surprises this week with the appearance of Derrick's sister and one of the twin alpha wolves is gay!! Listen to the show for my full recap.
Also, this week's Fanboy Throwback goes to
BATGIRL!!
I have been a fan since she slipped on the tight purple cat suit and kicked her way to comic fandom in 1967-68 in the Schwartz live action Batman series. To hear all things Batgirl check out the 2nd half of the show. Check out Yvonne Craig Here
This week's comic reviews are Pippi and Aphrodite IX.
On this week's show we talk about the upcoming Xmen Days of Future Past with Bryan Singer back at the helm. From what I have read, it seems like it will be a close rendition to what the original comic book story told. The question many are asking is how is Patrick Stewart going to reprise his role as Prof X. If you remember our dear Professor was killed in Xmen The Last Stand by the horrible Jean Grey/ Phoenix character that was brain stormed by Brett Ratner. I hated The Last Stand. Phoenix no fire, nuff said.
Also, Hugh Jackman isn't sure about his future with the Wolverine franchise. EW.com reports that he wasn't sure after the first solo Wolvie movie was he going to be involved anymore. But, as we type he is taping his scenes in Days Of Future Past. It is also rumored that he may make an appearance in The Avengers 2 movie. What would it be like if Hugh Jackman was recasted in the future Xmen/Wolverine movies. Only time will tell I guess.
@BryanSinger on twitter tweeted this pic of Michael Fassbender
on the set of X-Men Days of Future Past
Our Comic Book Reviews for this week are from Avatar and Valiant. Avatar's Absolution was a blood bath. And Valiant's Harbinger Wars seems promising. Listen in to my review.
I have incorporated a new feature in Fanboy Friday. The Fanboy Friday Throwback is something that I thought would be fun and interesting. In the theme of the show we will be revisiting one of my fave Comic Books, Television Shows or Video Games that have either been forgotten or gone away.
This week's throw back comes from Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Last but not least, Teen Wolf is back with it's new season. Check out the show to hear my recap.
