Dragon Con Tales

I was very excited to be going back to Atlanta to attend their Annual nerd gathering, Dragon Con. I had never attended this event even though I had previously lived in Atlanta for many years.  But, that is probably the only thing nice I have to say about the event.  Check out this week's podcast for my review of Dragon Con.

Give me that damn Pretzel

Yes, my old friend is Auntie Anne's pretzels.  LOL, I haven't had Auntie Anne's in years.  The other day I was in the mall and I just had to have one.  And it was delish!  Also, men, if you ever too worried about not having a big enough member. I read an article that may make you think differently. Lastly, the Ladies of Bravo's Real housewives of Atlanta are acting out on their reunion show.  But, the most ratchet one is a cast members mother.  All this and a little more in this weeks late night podcast below.

The Bitches Are Back

Well I guess they came back a few weeks ago.  But, since I have been neglecting my poor blog I have decided to write about it today.  THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA!! Our girls Nene, Kandi, Kim and Sheree return along with Phaedra (the attorney) and Cynthia Banks (the model).  You will notice this season that Lisa Wu Hartwell is not present, although she was in this week's episode.  At the beginning of this season you hear Sheree, say that she had not seen Lisa since she moved just north of Atlanta.  LIES! That must have been Bravo's way of not liking how Wu-Hartwell left the show.  In an interview done earlier this year, Lisa explained the reason she was not returning to the show. She said It was because she did not want her life to be scripted.  Shame on you Bravo for duping us in to thinking that all that melodrama wasn't set up.  LOL!  I for one think Lisa is the realest for not selling out to Bravo for a pay check, You Go Girl.  On the other hand, this season is already drama filled with 2 cat fights already under their collective Gucci belts.  The new additions of Ms. Parks and Miss Banks are ok until you see their interactions with the core group.   Ms. Parks is supposedly an attorney to the stars here in Atlanta.  She claims to be a true to life Southern Belle.  But, her actions and over the top musings do not seem really lady like.  She comes off phony and full of herself.  Unlike, Nene's over the top realness.  Miss Banks, on the other hand, is as sweet as she is pretty.  She almost seems out of place with this group of divas and we will have to wait and see if she can hold her own with them.  All in all this season should be a good watch.

Been awhile

Well what can I say.  It has been awhile since I have had the chance to just blog about anything on my site.  I haven't even had a chance to catch on other blogs that I read.  So I do apologize for not blogging more. But, not too much has been going on.  I did have a birthday so now I am a year older.  I bet you though I was going to tell my age.  NOT! I am not actually that old.  But, I feel like it sometimes.  But, the birthday was cool.  Sort of low-key.  I had a nice Italian dinner with some friends. Then we hit the local gay strip bar Swinging Richards to end the night.  At one point one of the strippers takes off my glasses and places it on his private parts.  It was a fun night.  This passed Monday, Labor Day, a friend and I went to a local Atlanta attraction.. Stone Mountain Park.  It was our first time visiting the park and it was amazing.  I wish we had more time there, because there were several things I wanted to experience.  But, the main thing was the mountain and getting on top.  In order to get on top you either had to hike or ride the Sky Ride to the top.  Well since I wasn't prepared to hike 5 miles to the top, we took the sky lift.  Now, I should tell you that I have a small fear of heights and this is WAY beyond anything that I have ever done in recent years. My buddy encouraged me to just do it and so I did.  It was a little hair raising, but I made it up without incident.  I was so happy that I did.  The view from top was well worth a little discomfort or the uncertainty that I felt getting up there.  Although the ride down was another story all together, but I made it through that too.  To end the little excursion to the mountain we had the chance to see a laser light show and fireworks display. I was awestruck to say the least.   So, that's it.  A few things going on in my life.. Nothing major.. until next time..

Atlanta Gay Activist Dies

The death of a GLBT equality advocate has reportedly been attributed to a mix of poppers and a drug for erectile dysfunction.

Gregg Barrett, a longtime volunteer with gay organizations such as the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus, Atlanta’s AIDS Walk, and Atlanta Pride, had been visiting a friend when he combined poppers with Levitra, reported the Georgia Voice on June 11. The next morning, Barrett was dead, having apparently succumbed while sleeping. The article said that Levitra advises against using the drug together with poppers.

Individuals seeking to enhance sexual pleasure inhale fumes from chemicals known as alkyl nitrites, which are used in various medical and commercial applications, including as ingredients for aerosol deodorants such as room fresheners, according to a Wikipedia article. The effect of the chemicals is to increase blood flow and relax sphincter muscles, leading to a brief increase in sexual pleasure. Though long-term abuse of such substances have been linked to an array of health issues, occasional use seems to pose little risk, unless the chemicals are ingested or combined with drugs designed to counter erectile dysfunction, such as Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra, which warn consumers not to use poppers while taking their products.

GLBT advocacy site Advance Indiana posted the story on June 12, under a headline that asked, "Will Gay Community and Law Enforcement Wake Up?" The article noted that use of poppers can make "rough sex" easier and less uncomfortable.

A PDF document on the risks of using poppers for sexual purposes is available from Project Neon.org. The document details, in plain language, how use of poppers can increase the risk of sexually transmitted infections such as HIV.

"When you’re high you may lose good judgment," the document warns, adding, "Guys who use crystal or poppers tend to have more sex with more partners." Additionally, the physiological effects of such drugs also play a role in increasing disease transmission: "Poppers open blood vessels, sending more blood to areas like your dick and ass," the text explains. ""This makes it easier for HIS and other STDs to get into your bloodstream."

Since poppers are often used at circuit parties and other social events, the text went on to look at how "Crystal, alcohol, or all-night dancing and sex can dehydrate you and dry up the natural lubricant in your butt. A dry cracked butt is a welcome matt for viruses and germs."

Poppers also play a more direct role in increasing the risk of unprotected anal sex: "Poppers and crystal meth can each reduce the pain of anal sex," the text notes. "But long, hard butt sex beyond your normal limits can create small tears and more openings for HIV."

The document also warns that combining poppers with crystal meth can over-tax the heart and cardiovascular system.

Barrett served as the operations chair for Atlanta Pride. "In short, he was personally responsible for every other committee’s needs, and the operations center was ground zero for any issue during the festival," said the executive director of Atlanta Pride, JP Sheffield, a June 4 article at Project Q Atlanta said. "Power outages, chairs needed, anything at all, that call went to Greg. It was a really, really tough job.

"I can’t even think abut how we’re going to make due yet," added Sheffield. "It’s not just about losing someone who did a good job, but he had an institutional history of what worked and what didn’t work. You can’t replace that kind of knowledge. You can’t have another Greg."

Barrett is survived by his life partner, Tim Garrett.

Swinging Richards, Atlanta, GA - All Male All Nude All Night

I love this bar. Although most of the guys are straight. This bar is for gay men. And the men are sexy as hell.
